Conversations, continued

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Here’s the reply I sent to that Christian kid the other day:
Since, as I have stated before, I’m not really interested in changing your mind with regard to your beliefs, take what follows as simply a statement of what I believe.
A comparison of the human body with those of animals shows that we are indeed […]

Free Speech America again: a resolution?

Monday, May 28th, 2007

The bounced email I got from their webform last week has continued to bother me, so I went back to their contact page and found an info@ address and sent the following message to it:
Subject: Blog comment spammer at your location?
I tried sending a message about this the other day using the webform on your […]

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

A little while ago I decided to step outside before it starts raining and had a look around the yard.
Last weekend, I got away from the computer for a while and cleaned up a lot of the dead undergrowth and fallen leaves from last year. I cleaned out all of the old morning glory vines […]

Making the Lawson’s help cry

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

I’ve got an amusing(?) little anecdote to share with you all, but can’t post it until after Thursday.
(My printer in the office was on the futz Thursday and I couldn’t print out my handouts, so I had to come up with alternate lesson plans at the last moment and gave my comp class a listening […]

Conversations with a Christian Youth

Friday, May 25th, 2007

I’ve continued exchanging messages with the young blogger I mentioned a few posts back. It has since come out that he was home-schooled. When I learned that, I pointed out that his earlier comment about his textbooks now made sense and asked a few questions about home-schooling in general and in his State. He replied […]

Free Speech America at it again

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

After several weeks of silence, I just found eight new spam messages, all with the same content, waiting in the mod queue.
So I made good on my threat and have just sent an abuse report to their provider, Comcast.
Let’s see what happens.
(Oh, yeah, I notified them that I had done so using their contact webform.)

Falwell well fallen

And good riddance.
Hopefully he didn’t harbor any secret doubts. Reportedly those final few seconds can be quite traumatic as the last brain cells die and the mind manufactures fantasms.
Even though I think he was a despicable person, I’m not above hoping he saw himself going into the light.
Before the void and oblivion swallowed him.

Something WRONG with the world…

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

There’s definitely something wrong with the world when I have to receive spam email in Japanese on my office account advertising “Young, Pink P****”.
What really pisses me off the most is that the “new improved” network system and administration actually lets this shit get to my mailbox. Sure, it marks the subject line with “SPAM:” […]

No point in or worth arguing

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

In response to a comment I left on a post by a young blogger equating Darwinism with Naziism, I received this message earlier today:
I hold to the belief of Christianity.
The Bible tells how life begins.
From this, i know evolution is nothing but a bunch of lies created by man.
As to what text books i read […]

Free Speech America

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

Owner of, please stop comment-spamming my blog.
I tried accessing your website to see if you were a sadly misguided and over-zealous but real webmaster. Your site took too long to begin to respond appropriately, which is always a bad sign. I therefore conclude that you’re just another stupid spammer. Get a life.
And btw, publishing […]

Smart enough to stay well clear

Monday, May 7th, 2007

I caught part of a CSI episode on WOWWOW Saturday night. Original series (meaning, Las Vegas), probably the newest season or just one back. (Unlike with my other satellite channels, WOWWOW is fairly up to date.) In case you’re another fan, it’s the one where they find an undergound bunker in the desert, full of […]

Before Republican or Democrat, American

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

I listened to a Larry King interview with George Tenet on CNN this morning. At one point, Tenet said something to the effect that he had never thought of himself as a Republican or Democrat, that before everything else he thought of himself as an American.
It’s a pity more politicians don’t get that, no?
