A bullet between the eyes of every endangered panda

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

I ran down to Anzen to get a couple of garden poles and plastic locks to build a support for the morning glories at the side of the house. (I hadn’t expected them to do anything this year, but suddenly they have exploded and are covering the ground. I will at least lift them up […]

Bloggidge?

Monday, August 28th, 2006

I just saw this for the first time. (So sue me. I don’t get around much!)
What a singularly ugly word.
“Bloggage” would have made more sense, orthographically, IMO. I guess the ‘i’ comes from “blogging”.
Whatever. Anyone else seen any “bloggidge” on this?

And distant the sounds of revelry

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

I just stepped out front, because I’d forgotten to check if there was any mail today, and could hear the sounds of a matsuri (flutes, taiko drum and women singing min’yô) echoing from somewhere over in the direction of Meisei. I hadn’t noticed from inside the house because I’ve had the air-conditioning on since 2:00 […]

Five reasons to hate fathers

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

That’s how many comments with links to “Buy Valium” sites I just found waiting for me in the mod queue, all from either dad1156576231@yahoo.com or dad1156585053@yahoo.com.
Actually, there are more than five reasons—more like twenty-five, maybe—since I’ve been deleting similar spam from one numbered dad or another since earlier in the afternoon. (Hence the real reason […]

An odd day for searches

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Was kinda bored, so I got a copy of the current access log and searched for “search?”, to see what has brought people here in the last half-day or so. Odd results, as usual.

Feel pleasure from this. Costs much less than a luxury car!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, you’re SO right!
That DOES feel good:
Watching your spam swirl down the drain!
Tool.

Online again!

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Looks like this blog’s done gone online again!
I’m imagining that sung by Willie. You know Willie, he used to do that thang with wailin’, Willie and wailin’ and the boys.
Anyway, not clear yet what happened yesterday other than that there was a problem with the provider’s MySQL server. Everything seems to be working OK now.
Keep […]

It occurred to me…

Friday, August 18th, 2006

this evening while driving home from Mito, that Lost is just a more modern, grittier version of Gilligan’s Island.
The equivalences are left as an exercise for the reader.
(Trust me, they’re there.)

Preemptive

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Not that I’m feeling left out, or anything!
In time he came back to the conference room, found it dark and Paul asleep on the table with a guard’s robe thrown over him and a ditty pack for a pillow. The Duke walked softly down the length of the room and onto the balcony overlooking the […]

HEY DAVE, GLAD TO HELP!

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

This didn’t take long.
Please don’t mention directing traffic your way! Likewise, I’m sure.
Paying me is a nice idea…but really not necessary: I consider getting the word out about your film a public service. Sorry I can’t be like the “executive producer” and tell you things you want to hear…but then again, you’re not paying me […]

Pre-release Film Criticism: An AD Post

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Hey, gang, you can now comment on the new version (at least I think it’s been edited since the last time we slagged it; there seems to be more echo in the narrator’s voice at the beginning) of the trailer for “The Miracle Year” here on Google Videos.
David doesn’t seem too happy with the first […]

Egad…Double-tagged!

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Eek. I’ve been nabbed by Marc AND L. Tart. Where was this kind of action when I was younger?!
1. One book that changed your life?
The Holy Bible, in various versions, translations and portions in the original languages. Exposure at an early age is the best preventative against religious belief and fervor later in life that […]

New Minimalist IQ Test for Commenters

Friday, August 11th, 2006

The spammers who have caught on to the checkbox and changed their bots accordingly have become either numerous or active enough to warrant a change to the code. The new method doesn’t require any real smarts, just an ability to read and type.

New “Best Spam Yet”!

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Just got this in the mail from “Busby”:
My peenis is always hard and is able to move without interruption!
Dude, get to the doctor! Priapism can lead to all sorts of complications, including gangrene!
And you know what the only cure for that is! Chop chop! Yikes!
(The moving without interruption bit confuses me, but reminds me of […]
